This is an editorial my father wrote to the St. Pete Times. He's my hero.
"I could care less what the Seminole Tribe in Oklahoma think. They're in Oklahoma," said trustee Richard McFarlain, a Tallahassee lawyer. "They got run out of here by - who was it, Andrew Jackson or somebody like that? The Trail of Tears? The real Seminoles stayed here."
I find these comments by Mr. McFarlain to portray the very reason Native American mascot names are sensitive to the native people. The "Real" Seminoles did not "stay" here but were driven into the southern regions of Florida the white man dared not tread. Did he ever hear of the "Seminole Wars" inflicted upon the native people, escaped slaves, and so-called border "ruffians" (poor whites)?
I believe we still hold the German people responsible for the "Holocaust" perpetrated against the Jews. The US government still has not apologized to any of the native peoples for any Indian removal acts including the forced relocation of the Seminoles of Oklahoma. They were Promised Land by our government to live in peace. Those that fled believed they could take their elderly and children to escape from this genocide to live in peace. The "real" Seminoles were not deceived by false declarations of the US government. They stayed here to oppose the terrorist acts of the US government.
Sorry, Richard, but I think you need some sensitivity training for your remarks. Or could it be you have Lyme disease? I believe you may enroll in the course at the school of which you are a trustee for free. Until then I believe you should be suspended from your office for your remarks.
Mr. Wetherell, I suggest you take this swift action as you would against any faculty member that engages in racist profiling. Or is the bottom line as you state economical? Restricting its use could cause economic damage to the university, you said.
Keep the name; give the money back to the Seminoles and the ruffians as stated earlier.
Sincerely,
Daniel L. Davis

For those that don't know, the FSU quarterback was recently bakeracted during practice since he was yelling out senseless shit, claiming he was God. They discovered shortly after he had Lyme Disease. Sooo... maybe McFarlain has Lyme Disease! That must be why!
